Music is everywhere. Even on the small screen. This issue, we are evaluating some of our favorite theme songs from the 90s and early 2000s that you can find on some popular streaming platforms.

Living Single

Living Single‘s theme song is by the the amazing Queen Latifah who also starred in the show. The story’s about six 20-something friends living in a brownstone in Brooklyn. Pictured (L-R) is Kyle Barker (Terrence C. Carson), Maxine Shaw (Erika Alexander), Regine Hunter (Kim Fields), Khadijah James (Queen Latifah), Synclaire James/Jones (Kim Coles), and Overton Wakefield Jones (John Henton). You are able to watch all 5 seasons on Hulu.

Half & Half

This incredibly catchy theme song is by Melonie Daniels. This show was full of dramatic turns and laughs and we totally recommend! This show concentrates on two half sisters (Rachel True and Essence Atkins) who don’t always get along but gradually start building a better relationship, but their mothers (Telma Hopkins and Valarie Pettiford) can’t stand each other! This show is on Netflix, also.

The Parkers

The Parkers theme song was performed by it’s star, Countess Vaughn. The Parkers follow community college student, Kim Parker (Countess Vaughn) and her mother who also attends the community college (Mo’Nique). The plot follows their everyday trials and tribulations of having to share the same campus and friends. You can find this show on Netflix

MO TO THE, E TO THE! Moesha is one of our favorite shows and the theme song is preformed by no other than THE Brandy Norwood. She’s also the star, by the way. The TV show The Parkers was a spinoff of this show. If you like hilarious laughs, relatable drama, and late nights binging, Moesha is an amazing show to watch.

The Now

Here are some theme songs or songs on the shows soundtrack preformed by Black women from today. Try comparing them to the ones above

Grown~ish Theme Song
